Presidents Message

Ian Greaves President 2024

It is an honour to be invited to become President for 2024, some 44 years after the school closure and 55 years since I arrived at Richview.

Time moves on. Everything revolved around time then too …and the bell outside the day room! Only in later life could I appreciate the disciplines instilled, the independence fostered and, the camaraderie developed. Most importantly, the Masonic School gave me the gift of an education that was the bedrock of my future career. We have always punched above our weight, be it on the sports field or in the wider world in terms of our diverse careers and achievements.

The next time we are due to meet in Dublin is on the 12th April for our annual reunion dinner at the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan. (To book, please contact Alastair White at almewhite44@gmail.com). I would be delighted if you could join us then, to meet up with friends old and new.

About Masonic Old Boys Association

Welcome to the website of the Masonic Old Boys’ Association. We are an Association of past pupils of the Masonic Boys’ School, Dublin. The School was maintained by Brethren of the Masonic Order for the education and sustenance of the sons of deceased, or financially distressed, freemasons of the Irish Constitution.

The School was in existence for 113 years, from 1867 to 1980, when it closed and the buildings became part of what is now University College Dublin’s School of Architecture, at Clonskeagh. The Masonic Boys’ School was a small School, accommodating a maximum 115 boys, the majority of whom came from Northern Ireland, with numbers being made up from the Republic and a few from farther afield. It was, however, in its time, a beacon of academic, sporting and moral excellence and, on the sport’s field, the School excelled particularly at cricket, winning the Leinster Schools’ cricket cups, at all levels, on many occasions.
